Dorcas Sewing Circle makes lap robes as well as full size quilts for others. In 2009 we made 65 lap robes which were given away to Children's Medical Center and various nursing homes. Those who make lap robes sew on machines and tie them with yarn. Adjacent to them, the quilters are working on a large frame. Quilting is easy and fun -- and our quilters were taught "on the job" at Trinity. Our full-size quilts have won four blue ribbons at the Montgomery County Fair.Dorcas meets every Thursday beginning about 9:30 a.m. The ladies sew as long as they have time, with 2 p.m. our closing time. Bring a brown bag lunch. We usually eat with Pastor Doug at 12 noon.
On February 5, SOUPER BOWL Sunday, we will collect money for World Hunger and its partners Lutheran World Relief and the Lutheran World Federation.
ELCA World Hunger responds to our neighbors around the corner and around the world. Through relief, education, development and advocacy, these programs help individuals and communities lift themselves out of poverty into self-sufficiency. Through our giving and caring we are responding to Christ's command to "Go and do likewise." -Luke 10:37.
To bring hope to the millions more who are going hungry this year, please donate generously. Write your check payable to "Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church" with ELCA World Hunger on memo line. Put your envelope/check/money in the black kettles our ladies will be holding after service.
Once each year our ladies-with our congregation's help-prepare and serve a nourishing meal for Dayton's homeless or needy people at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Wayne Avenue. Our date this year is Monday, February 27. Last year we served 138 hungry souls. Our sign-up sheet for workers and food to be donated will soon be available. The food items should be brought to the kitchen on Sunday, February 26. If you have questions, please contact Donna March at 836-4301.
Last year our congregation provided 1,444 non-perishable food items for the New Hope Lutheran Church Food Pantry. We hope that our Trinity members will continue to be as generous this year. As you do your weekly marketing, please remember our neighbors who are in dire need, and help fill the baskets in the social hall and parlor every month. Walt Peck delivers our contributions to the hardworking and grateful staff at New Hope. If you would prefer to give a monetary donation, it will help pay for perishable food which must be purchased at the Dayton Area Food Bank at reduced prices. Checks can be written to New Hope Food Pantry and placed in a pink envelope.
If you or someone you know received a new cell phone, there is a need for your old one (even if it doesn't work). Place it in the appropriate container on the Donation Table in the social hall. A local organization repairs the phones and provides them to shut-in, at risk women, etc. so that they can make emergency calls if necessary.
Save your "pop tops" for the Ronald McDonald House. Battered Women's Shelter needs women and children's summer clothes. Jeremiah's Letter needs hygiene items (they will take items from hotels), used blankets, and towels.
