Women of the ELCA at Trinity

Trinity's Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America offer our women the opportunity to study the Bible and social issues, enjoy Christian fellowship and assist women and children in need throughout the Dayton area and the world. We invite all women to become active members in either of our two groups:

Dorcas Sewing Circle

Dorcas Sewing Circle makes lap robes as well as full size quilts for others. In 2009 we made 65 lap robes which were given away to Children's Medical Center and various nursing homes. Those who make lap robes sew on machines and tie them with yarn. Adjacent to them, the quilters are working on a large frame. Quilting is easy and fun -- and our quilters were taught "on the job" at Trinity. Our full-size quilts have won four blue ribbons at the Montgomery County Fair.

Dorcas meets every Thursday beginning about 9:30 a.m. The ladies sew as long as they have time, with 2 p.m. our closing time. Bring a brown bag lunch. We usually eat with Pastor Doug at 12 noon.

Soap

September is Soap month. Each year we ask Trinity members to donate bath-sized soap for Lutheran World Relief. The soap is distributed to refugees and victims of natural and man-made disasters here and abroad.

A bar of soap can help bathe an infant or child in a refugee camp or provide clean dishes or clothes to prevent the spread of disease.

Bring your soap by Sunday, October 3. Then we will box it and take it to Faith Lutheran Church to be shipped, free of charge, to the Lutheran World Relief warehouse in Baltimore. They will deliver it wherever and whenever it is needed.

The next time you reach for a bar of soap, which we take for granted, say a prayer for those who consider it a great luxury.

Go and Do

This year we have ELCA "Go and Do" gift cards which can be sent to friends or family members announcing that a donation has been given in their honor or a gift has been given in memory of a loved one.

The next time you enjoy a drink of clean, safe water, please say a prayer for those who have none available. Your contribution will save lives.

Food Pantry

URGENT NEED FOR FOOD

How many of us stopped eating this summer? I'm sorry to say that our lack of non-perishable food donations indicate that we have little concern for the people who depend on New Hope Lutheran Food Pantry for their family's well-being. PLEASE count your blessings then show compassion for our neighbors in need. Those food baskets should be filled each Sunday or bring several items the first Sunday each month. II Corinthians 9:7 " God loveth a cheerful giver.".

Cell Phone Recycling

If your family members have upgraded to more exotic cell phones, you might wonder if you should throw the old ones away. Don't! The Women of ELCA has located a charitable organization named "Good Deed Foundation." They recycle the used cell phones and raise funds to benefit women and children in poverty. Seventy percent of people living in poverty are women and children. Place your used cell phones in the container on the donation table in the social hall.

It is our hope that all of Trinity's women will actively support our many projects as we strive to serve our Lord.
