The History of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Quilt

The quilted wall hanging on the right gives a concise history of Trinity's congregation.

Trinity Church has its roots in Second English Lutheran Church (1892) and Trinity English Lutheran Church (1900), each founded by a nucleus of members from First English Lutheran Church in downtown Dayton. The two congregations merged in 1926 to form Second-Trinity Lutheran Church and in 1957 the "Second" was dropped from its name, and the congregation became Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

When the construction of I-75 cut a swath through Dayton and its neighborhoods, our original church home at Shaw and McDaniel Streets fell to the wrecking ball. With vision and faith, the congregation had purchased five acres on the north edge of Dayton. Our beautiful new church home at 6540 North Main Street opened its doors on Christmas Eve 1963.

Church records show that nearly 6,100 people have been members of our church family throughout the 115 years of Trinity's history. From the very beginning, the hallmark of our congregation has been our members' love and concern for one another. It is the golden cord that ties all generations together from 1892 to the present. That love links us to our past and to our future as we serve our Lord and Savior. We cordially invite you to become part of our loving family at Trinity Lutheran Church.
